Small Business Grants Victoria 2026: Major Programs Open Now
Last updated: July 2026 | Reviewed by Mark Davidson
Victorian small businesses can currently access grants ranging from $5,000 to $1,000,000 through state government programs, local council funding and federal schemes open to Victorian applicants. This guide covers every major program with 2026 closing dates, who qualifies, and how to apply in plain language.
Quick answer:
The largest funding currently available to Victorian businesses is through Sustainability Victoria’s grant streams (up to $1,000,000 for recycling and electrification projects). Regional businesses should look at the Tiny Towns Fund ($5,000–$50,000) and the Regional Events Fund (up to $500,000, reopening 3 August 2026).
Melbourne-based businesses should register for the next round of the City of Melbourne’s Business Growth and Impact Grants.

Sustainability Victoria Grants — Up to $1,000,000
Sustainability Victoria administers several major funding streams for 2025–2026:
- Circular Economy Recycling Modernisation Fund (Round 6): Grants of up to $1,000,000 for recycling and materials-recovery projects.
- Large Energy User Electrification Support Program: For facilities using between 10 and 100 terajoules of gas annually, supporting the switch away from gas.
- Community Electrification Engagement Program: Up to $110,000 for community organisations and not-for-profits running household electrification programs.
Act quickly: The Victorian Government has announced Sustainability Victoria will be abolished in 2026 as part of its response to the Silver Review. Current rounds may be the final ones before its functions are transferred. If you have an eligible project, apply now rather than waiting.
Full eligibility breakdown: see our Business Sustainability Grant VIC 2026 guide.
Tiny Towns Fund Round 3 — $5,000 to $50,000
Grants for projects in Victorian towns with fewer than 5,000 residents. If your business or community project is based in a small regional town, this fund supports local infrastructure and community-benefit projects.
Eligibility and application steps: see our Tiny Towns Fund Victoria 2026 guide.

Regional Events Fund (Visit Victoria) — Up to $500,000
Funding to grow medium and large-scale events in regional Victoria. The next application window opens 3 August 2026 and closes 30 September 2026.
If you run or host events that draw visitors to regional Victoria, prepare your application now, this is one of the largest single grants available.
Tourism operators should also review the Regional Tourism Transformation program for Victoria.
City of Melbourne Business Growth and Impact Grants
Formerly the Small Business Grants, this expanded program now runs four dedicated streams with a co-contribution option for larger amounts. Recent recipients received between $20,000 and $30,000.
Applications for the current round are closed, register on the City of Melbourne website to be notified when the next round opens. Recent recipients include tech startups, circular-economy businesses and professional services firms.

LaunchVic Women-Led Startup Co-Investment
LaunchVic co-invests alongside private investors in women-led Victorian startups at a 3:1 ratio, structured so only 85 cents in the dollar is taken as equity, the remainder is provided as a non-dilutive grant.
If you’re a female founder raising capital, this effectively adds free grant money to your funding round.

How to Apply: 3 Steps That Work for Every Victorian Grant
- 1. Check eligibility first. Every program lists hard criteria (ABN, location, business size). Read these before writing a single word — most rejected applications fail eligibility, not quality. Grant payments also require ABN and bank verification through Eftsure, so ensure your ABN is active.
- 2. Prepare your evidence. Quotes for the project, financial statements, and a one-page project summary. Grants with co-contribution requirements (dollar-for-dollar matching) need proof you can fund your share.
- 3. Apply early. Some Victorian programs assess applications in order received. Submitting in week one can literally be the difference between funded and missed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What small business grants are available in Victoria in 2026?
A: Victorian businesses can currently access Sustainability Victoria grants (up to $1,000,000), the Tiny Towns Fund ($5,000–$50,000), the Regional Events Fund (up to $500,000), City of Melbourne Business Growth and Impact Grants, LaunchVic co-investment for women-led startups, and federal programs including the R&D Tax Incentive and CSIRO Kick-Start.
Q: How much grant funding can a Victorian small business get?
A: Amounts range from $5,000 (Tiny Towns Fund minimum) to $1,000,000 (Sustainability Victoria’s Recycling Modernisation Fund). Most small business grants in Victoria fall in the $10,000–$50,000 range and many require a co-contribution from the applicant.
Q: Are Victorian business grants free money?
A: Grants don’t need to be repaid, but they’re not unconditional. Most require you to spend the funds on the approved project, provide receipts, and sometimes contribute matching funds. Some are paid as rebates or discounts rather than cash up front.
Q: Who is eligible for small business grants in Victoria?
A: Requirements vary by program, but nearly all require an active ABN, a Victorian business location, and compliance with the specific program criteria (business size, industry, or project type). Grant payments are only made after your ABN and bank details are verified.
Q: When do Victorian grant applications close in 2026?
A: Key dates: Sustainability Victoria rounds are closing progressively ahead of the agency’s planned abolition in 2026; the Regional Events Fund opens 3 August 2026 and closes 30 September 2026; City of Melbourne grants reopen for registration ahead of the next round. Closing dates change frequently — check each program page or use our eligibility tool for current windows.
Q: Can startups get grants in Victoria?
A: Yes. LaunchVic supports women-led startups through co-investment, the federal Industry Growth Program and CSIRO Kick-Start support innovative startups, and City of Melbourne grants have funded early-stage tech businesses.
